In 2024, NoFit State received funding for a Volunteer Programme from the Welsh Government’s Volunteering Wales Main Grants Scheme, administered by the WCVA. We were able to offer a variety of exciting volunteering opportunities to get some hands-on experience in events and within the creative industry.

What do you do at NoFit State?
I volunteer in the community Space. I help to set up the space for children to play and relax. I help with meeting and greeting the people and families. I help with making and serving refreshments and lunches. I play nursery rhymes and sing with the children with my ukulele. I help to support the adults with wellbeing exercises and I also speak Welsh.
How did you get into volunteering? Would you recommend volunteering and why is it important to you?
I retired from paid work and decided to look for voluntary work to fill some of my time. I found this and another placement through the Volunteer Wales website. I would recommend it to others as volunteering can be done at hours that suit the individual, at your own level of ability. I love being with people and this is wonderful with the opportunities where I volunteer.
What impact has volunteering at NoFit State had on you? What skills have you learnt/developed?
At a basic level, volunteering keeps me occupied. I dislike being bored. I meet amazing people, all with their stories to share.
I had no experience with small children, so I have learned a lot about safeguarding, what children enjoy doing, helping them to share play with others and when they need to stay calm.
